09/05/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cleveland Indians have been dominating the Minnesota Twins this season and will try to continue that trend tonight when the clubs wrap up their three-game series at the Metrodome.
Cleveland has taken the first two games of this set to give them six straight wins over Minnesota and a 13-4 edge in the season series. The Indians swept a quick two-game set in Minnesota in April, a three-game set at home in May and another three-game set in Cleveland in late August.
Travis Hafner had a monster game in Tuesday's 7-5 victory. He blasted a pair of homers, including a two-run shot that sent the game into extra innings, and had the game-winning sac fly in the 11th inning.
Coupled with Detroit's loss yesterday, Cleveland now leads the American League Central by seven games.
Kenny Lofton doubled, tripled, scored and knocked in a run for Cleveland, which has won 10 of its last 11 games. The win went to Rafael Betancourt (4-0), who tossed two scoreless innings of relief.
Justin Morneau went 3-for-5 with a three-run double while Luis Rodriguez added three hits with a run scored and RBI for the Twins, who have lost three straight and seven of their last nine. The loss went to Julio DePaula (0-1) while Joe Nathan blew his third save of the season.
Fausto Carmona will hope to halt a three-start winless drought for the Indians today. Since a tough-luck loss to Detroit on August 21, Carmona has posted back-to-back no-decisions, including Friday against the White Sox when he was shelled for five runs on seven hits and six walks over six innings.
The right-hander, though, has still been a pleasant surprise for Cleveland with a 14-8 mark and 3.31 earned run average.
Carmona is 2-2 in eight games (four starts) lifetime versus the Twins with a solid 1.93 ERA. He limited the club to one run over seven innings on August 5, but still came away with the loss after his club fell 1-0.
Scott Baker enters today's start for the Twins coming off consecutive victories. He bested Baltimore on August 26 before tossing the first shutout of his career on Friday versus Kansas City. Baker held the Royals to only one hit and one walk over nine stellar innings -- taking a perfect game into the ninth -- while also striking out nine. The victory improved him to 8-6 with a 4.09 ERA.
The right-hander posted a victory over Cleveland on August 5, outdueling Carmona with eight shutout innings, and is 2-3 with a 4.19 ERA in six career starts against them.
